Installation – General Guidelines

  • Tools/materials required: Heavy duty lap roller, stanley/utility knives, tape measure, cotton cleaning cloths, plywood, or similar cutting board, thin metal straight edge, chalk line, broom, 2 metre long pipe, or heavy broom handle, round nose trowel, or spatula required protection and/or drainage boards and other ancillary products.
  • SUNPRUFE membranes are supplied in rolls 1.2 m wide incorporating dual adhesive layers with colored zip strips at the top and bottom of the seam area on the edge of the roll. This enables even stronger bonded laps between adjacent rolls. Both zip strips cover an aggressive adhesive. Once the zip strip on the top of the membrane and the zip strip on the bottom of the membrane are removed, a strong adhesive to adhesive bond is achieved in the overlap area.

Installation – Horizontal Surface

  • Place the membrane with the zip strip facing towards the concrete pour. Kick out or roll out the membrane with HDPE film side to the substrate. End laps should be staggered to avoid a build-up of layers. Leave zip strips on the membrane until overlap procedure is completed.
  • Accurately position succeeding sheets to overlap the previous sheet 3 in. (75 mm) along the marked edge. Peel back and remove both the zip strips in the overlap area to achieve an adhesive to adhesive bond at the overlap. Ensure a continuous bond is achieved without creases and roll firmly with a heavy roller.
  • On completion of the installation, ensure complete removal of the plastic zip strips from all overlaps.

Installation – Vertical Surface

  • Apply the membrane with the green zip strip facing towards the concrete pour. Mechanically fasten the membrane vertically using flat-headed fixings appropriate to the substrate.
  • The membrane may be installed in any convenient length. Secure the top of the membrane using a batten or fixing 50 mm below the top edge. Use fixings at typically 600 mm centres to secure the membrane flat against the substrate.
  • Fixings can be made through the selvedge, this allows firmly rolled overlaps, which are covered by the subsequent strip of SUNPRUFE.
  • Peel back and remove both the green and blue zip strips in the overlap area to achieve an adhesive to adhesive bond at the overlap. Ensure a continuous bond is achieved without creases and roll firmly. On completion of the installation, completely remove the plastic zip strips from all overlaps.

Corners

  • Internal and external corners should be membrane a minimum of 100 mm and sealing. Ensure that the apex of the corner is covered and sealed and roll firmly.

SUNPRUFE SBS :  Self Adhesive SBS Modified Waterproofing Membrane

  • Industrial and civil buildings, basement and tunnels
  • Underground pipe gallery, water conservation
  • Deck waterproofing
  • Excellent low-temperature performance, especially suitable for cold area applications
  • Good weather resistance, tensile property, high elongation, wear resistance and excellent workability
  • Excellent adhesion to any vertical or horizontal surface
  • Polymer rich compound. Easy and strong seal on overlaps
  • High mechanical strength and fatigue resistance properties
  • No curing time, instantly waterproofs the substrate
  • Uniform thickness-eliminating likelihood of uneven application possible with liquid applied membrane
  • The surface should be cleaned thoroughly of all contaminants like dust, traces of curing compound, oil, and grease.
  • All surface imperfections, protrusions, structurally unsound, and friable concrete must be removed and repaired. The substrate must be moist but without stagnant water. Sprinkle water over the substrate if too dry.
  • The application temperature should be between 5 o C to 55 o C.
  • Apply a primer coat of SUNBITUPRIME at the rate of 10 sqm per Kg and allow it to cure for 6-8 hours.
  • On the primed surface, begin laying the membrane at the lowest point of the roof gradually moving towards the higher areas. Unroll the membrane halfway, align the side laps and fix SUNPRUFE SBS membranes by applying uniform pressure with a roller/wet cloth to ensure to remove entrapped air, if any.
  • Overlap joint shall be provided of 80 -150 mm in longitudinal direction and 80-150 mm in transverse direction.
  • For trafficable roof SUNPRUFE SBS waterproofing system shall be protected with PCC dosed with SUNPLEX of 50 mm thick/tiles loosely laid or fixed, over a separation layer of spot bonded geotextile of 120/150 gsm.
